Rivers United Uses Flight For League Matches
Rivers United will fly
to their away games in the Nigeria league and no longer embark on road trips.
This followed the successful talks between sponsors of the club, the Rivers State Government and an airline.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyaye, said it is in line with the blueprint of making the club the foremost Nigerian side in the country.
“It’s now official. Rivers United will now travel by air for all away matches to Northern and Western regions of Nigeria (United are based in Port Harcourt, Southern Nigeria),” Iyayi said.
“This is courtesy, the Rivers State Government as we strive to become a truly professional football club.
“It is also a form of motivation for our players in the shape of reducing fatigue as a result of long road trips to honour league fixtures.”
The commissioner of sports, while addressing the players, encouraged them not to disappoint Rivers State citizens in their quest to be the foremost football club in Nigeria.
United are currently in ninth place in the NPFL standings with three points from two matches in the two-week-old season.
