Rivers United FC Begins On Winning Note

Club of Port Harcourt has started the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on a winning note, as they beat visiting and defending champions of NPFL, Enyimba FC, with a line goal.
The match which saw an impressive spectators was played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium (former Liberation Stadium) and was one of the week one matches played at different venues, across the nation.
Homeboy, Frederick Obomate scored only goal in the game at 65th minute thorugh free kick outside the 18 yar box, after several misses from both teams, which led to barren first half.
On resumption the have team  became more cautious and tactical while Enyimba try to get the first goal.  After the goal the visitors became more aggressive working for an equalizer but was fruitless.
Sunday united goal keeper, Rotimi at 78th minute made a spectacular save that denied the peoples Elephants of Aba, a point to run away with.
The visitor went on rampage and looking for away to redeem image but all proved abortive.
Generally, the new Port Harcourt based team Rivers United FC played an impressively and both team entertained the huge spectators in the field.
Speaking shortly after the game, the technical adviser of the new Rivers United FC, Stanley Eguma, said the time for celebration has ??? saying that the players are young,  they are yet to blend effectively.
According to him, there are some players that are yet to finish their registration, adding that if those join the team we will have sharp midfield.
“This is not time to celebrate, we have just won one match out of 38 games, I am sure we will have a better team next match” Eguma said.
