Rivers State Chairman of
the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Bro Felix Obuah, has called for issue-based political campaigns as the March 19, 2016 date for the National and State Assemblies re-run elections draws closer.
Bro Obuah who is also the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the call in a statement he issued after the Council’s meeting last Friday.
The IPAC Chairman urged political parties and their supporters to shun campaigns of calumny and character assassination, stressing that messages should dwell mainly on party manifestoes and the integrity of candidates.
Bro Obuah called on politicians in the state to respect the right of the people to make their choices without undue pressure or intimidation and also stressed the need for candidates to freely move around within their constituencies to solicit for votes without hindrance.
He emphasized the need for a crisis-free polls and urged the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take proactive measures to ensure credible and acceptable exercise.
