Provide Enough Water For Your Livestock – Expert
The Director, Live
stock and Veterinary Department, Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Allswell Emejuru has called on livestock farmers in the state to provide enough water for their animals and birds.
Emejuru who stated this in Port Harcourt while speaking to The Tide recently said in order to avoid dehydration of their stock, farmers needed to make enough water available in their farms and poultry houses.
According to him animals especially pigs need a lot of water all year round to enable them develop properly.
He explained that birds also needed a lot of water as they were mostly susceptible to dehydration during the dry season.
Emejuru who is also the head of department said domesticated fowls also needed to be provided enough water during the dry season in order for them to survive.
Explaining the importance of clean water to livestock farming, he said some farmers due to improper orientation take a lot of things for granted.
He called for livestock farmers to avail themselves of the services of the ministry in order to forestall losses occasioned by deseases and other preventable occurrences.
