NPA Partners Japan On Technology
The Managing Director
of the Nigerian Ports Authority Mallam Habib Abdullahi says the organisation will welcome the infusion of Japanese advanced technology in critical areas of infrastructural development in form of Public Private Partnership (PPP).
The representative of the managing director and the General Manager, Capital Projects, Engr Rufai Mohammed assured the visiting Japanese delegation that the management of NPA will expeditiously list out technical and infrastructural needs of the organisation, since the Japanese government through the visitor has promised to help.
Mohammed added that NPA is currently involved in massive infrastructural renewal projects from her headquarters, quay length rehabilitation in Onne, Warri and Lagos ports.
He added that the organisation’s 25years Development Plan would soon be ready and that would be a compendium of these development projects.
Going down memory lane, Mohammed added that NPA had benefited in training programmes by the Japanese government in the past, and that it is a welcome development that such assistance is being put forward again.
The representative of the managing director also said being a bilaterial issue, he expects the visit to further unite and improve the collaboration between the two countries, especially now that NPA is embarking on capital intensive port reforms with the desire to be the leading port in Africa.
Earlier in his speech, on behalf of the Japanese government, the Section Manager of Urban and Transportation Planning Group of the Yachiyo Engineering Company limited Mr Yasuhiro Yamauchi, added that the Japanese government is ready to partner with NPA in particular and Nigeria in general especially in the area of technical abilities that would be useful for different projects in the country.
The Japanese representative asserted that his country is ready to help the African continent but that they want to start with Nigeria because of her population and economy.
In the company of Mr Yamauchi were Esmael Mohamed. Engr B.O Jegede and Mrs Olumese Beatrice while on the side of NPA management were, The General Manager Monitoring, Mr Obumneme Onuenyenwa, General Manager Special Duties Mrs Carol Ufere, Personal Assistant to the Managing Director Yitnoe Stanley and Mr B.E. Jonah of the Commercial Department.
