As part of its efforts in en
suring adequate medical service delivery to the people of the Niger Delta region, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated medical equipment to the Rivers State Government.
The items donated include fixed vaccine cold room, mobile Solar/Battery powered cold chains, 1,800 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), 200 hand sanitizer kits and 1,500 bottles of antiseptic.
Presenting the items, on behalf of the NDDC, the Director, Education, Health and Social Services, Mr. Seigha Victor Glasgow said the donation was in line with the Federal Government’s efforts to improving the health of the Niger Delta region and expressed hope that the equipment would be effectively utilized.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the government, the Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Dr. Theophilus Odagme stated that the donation came at a time when it was most needed and lauded the NDDC for its gesture.
According to him, “this donation is coming just at the time the state is recovering from the Lassa Fever outbreak. Government cannot afford to play politics with the health of its citizenry and the Governor Nyesom Wike- led administration’s vision is that of improved health care service to citizens and residents of Rivers State.”
Odagme who noted that health care delivery was everybody’s business called for more partnership with NDDC and other health stakeholders to ensure the total well-being of the people.
He added that the ministry would soon provide mosquito nets for the anti-malaria programme of the government.
