Octogenarian mother of Dr Austin Tam-George, the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs Patience Tam-George, has been kidnapped in Okrika, Okrika Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner, who confirmed the abduction of his aged mother, yesterday, told newsmen that his 85-year old mother was whisked away by unknown gunmen at George-Ama area of the ancient Okrika town while on her way back from church on Saturday evening.
He said the kidnappers had contacted an uncle with the aged mother’s phone, demanding for N30million ransom, adding that the kidnappers also allegedly condemned the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for lashing at their action.
“They have made contact with the family using her phone, demanding N30 million for her release. They condemned the PDP for “challenging” them. Her name is Patience Tam-George, she is 85 years,” the commissioner said.
Tam-George, who sounded very disturbed by the development, said the mother had some health challenges, pleading that she should be released, unconditionally.
When asked if he would raise the N30 million to secure her release, the commissioner said he could not imagine where he would raise such a huge amount, and appealed passionately for her release.
