An agricultural engi
neer, Mr. Umor Muzan, has called on poultry farmers to purchase their day-old birds around September of every year.
Nuizan who spoke to The Tide in a telephone interview said this would enable the birds mature for sale by December.
He said the advice became necessary because there was usually a high demand for poultry products in most parts of the country in December.
“When you order birds like day-old layer chickens, you will find out that you have to order them early enough to get the best choice and then organize feed,” he said.
He further advised that farmers should save money for feed and also apply for credit facilities early enough.
According to him, birds that are produced may not be sold during Christmas but also in the new year and upwards.
“Usually, the common thing is that people who have money may have contributed in buying cows and sharing them for Christmas.
“But immediately after Christmas they will need the chickens because they want to partake in end-of-year parties, programmes, traditional marriages and other occasions,” he said.
