The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George has said that the Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration will give priority attention to the empowerment of local communities in the state, especially in the areas of entrepreneurial  and infrastructural development.
The commissioner, who disclosed this in his office while receiving members of the Dokube War Canoe House of Okrika in a courtesy call said, the various communities in Rivers State were integral to the process of governance and deserved a better standard of living.
He said that the Wike administration was repairing the broken social contract between government and the people, by ensuring that  the local communities are directly impacted by government development policies.

According to the commissioner, the provision of N2billion micro finance loan scheme in the state was part of the economic empowerment programme of the Wike’s administration, and assured that the fund would be judiciously administered to the real target beneficiaries, access it.
Tam-George thanked the Dokube War Canoe House for the visit, and disclosed that the ministry of information and communication will soon commence Town Hall meetings across the 23 local government areas of the state to sensitize the people on government policies and to stimulate effective feedback-mechanism between the communities and government.
He said that the government would partner with community-based organisations to drive government policies.
Earlier, the chairman of the Dokube War Canoe House in Okrika, Mr Banigo Samuel George, had stated that the visit was to felicitate with the commissioner over his appointment and to thank Governor Nyesom Wike for appointing one of their own as the commissioner for Information and Communications in Rivers State.
