Organisers of the Port
Harcourt Cricket League have appealed to well meaning individuals and corporate bodies in Rivers State to extend their support in sponsoring the league.
The appeal was made by Tonye Timinadi at the weekend briefly after the match between Benvie Cricket Club and K-11 Cricket Club played at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) cricket Pitch.
According to Timinadi, who is one of the organizers of the league and also head coach of the state cricket team, the cricket league is being organized by the four cricket clubs in the state: Benvic, K-11, Panthers and Whales.
He said that the clubs tasked themselves certain amount to enable them run the league.
“Every year, the clubs come together and agree on some amount which we pay as levy to ensure that the competition holds,” he explained.
However, any club that wins the league would represent the state at the National Cricket tournament this year.
It would be recalled that the 2014 National version of the cricket league tagged National Open Cricket League was shifted to this year,  due to financial constraint at the National Cricket Federation (NCF).
Meanwhile, Benvic Cricket Club defeated K-11 by 14 runs yesterday in the ODI (full oval) version of the league.
Timinadi scored 52 runs to win the most valuable player (MVP) award at the weekend.
