Council Urges Rivers Workers To Comply With BVN Directive
The Rivers State Coun
cil of Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) has urged public workers in the state to comply with the state government’s directive on the submission of their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) for February salary payment.
Speaking to The Tide on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Chukwu Emecheta, said the directive was in the best interest of the workers for the government to differentiate authentic public service workers from ghost workers. Emecheta said that the directive would really assist the government to actually verify the monthly wage bill of the state, especially in the face of dwindling statutory allocations from the federal government.
He expressed optimism that civil servants in the state will comply with the directive without unnecessary delays, adding that early submission of the BVN would facilitate early February salary payment by the state government.
The labour leader said that the union strongly believes that all public service workers in the state have the bank verification numbers since workers received their salary through the banks.
He pledged the support of the union to the state government in its determination to ascertain the total workforce of the state government.
He equally enjoined various parastatals to appropriately comply with the government directive describing the directive as a step in the right direction and in the overall interest of the workers.
