Comptroller Tasks Media On Investigative Journalism

Controller, Seme Command, Comptroller Victor Dimka, has  urged journalists to carry out investigative journalism when reporting a news story.
Dimka made the plea in an interview with newsmen  in Seme, near Badagry, on Tuesday.
He said that investigative journalism would help in giving a balanced, objective and fair representation of both sides of a report to the general public.
“When reporting or writing a story, journalists should always carry out investigation as this would help in revealing the true side of the story.
“If that is carried out, it would give a fair representation of the publication and this in turn would help the public in giving a fair and right judgement.
“But if this is done otherwise, the public would be misled and would not get to know the true aspect of things.
“So, it is extremely important for investigative journalism to be ‘carried out in reporting stories,’’ Dimka said.
He said he was committed to transformation of the Seme border by exploiting all available opportunities to create an enabling environment.
“This command refuses to be intimidated by any form of organised protest against the implementation of Federal policies.
“Nothing would be done with impunity any longer. We are determined to get things right and have a complete moral rebirth in order to complement the efforts of the CGC (Comptroller-General of Customs).
“We are committed to collecting maximum revenue which is one of the core mandates of the service and that cannot be handled with any form of levity,” the controller further said.
Dimka said that all officials of the command had been warned not to be involved in the clearance of imported vehicles.
“All officials of the command have been warned against interfering in the activities of all registered licensed agents.
“Any officer caught in the act would face the full wrath of the law because clearing of imported vehicles is not the duty of customs officers; so they should stay clear of such,’’ he said.
Dimka appealed to stakeholders, communities and the media to partner with the command in order to achieve the objectives of the command.
