Butchers Deny Using Tyres To Process Meat

ket Association, Port Harcourt has denied allegations that its members use spent motor tyres in the Processing of animal skins.
An official of the market who spoke to The Tide at the weekend, Mallan Salihu Ibrahim, said there was a law in place banning the use of old motor tyres in the processing of animal Skin.
He said the practice was unhealthy for meat consumers.
According to him, since the Rivers State Government outlawed the practice, the association has put machinery in place to check unholsome practice.
Ibrahim, who took our correspondent round the market maintained that butchers and meat handlers have been sensitised enough on the daugers inherent in the use of spent or condemned motor vehicle tyres in the treatment of meat products.
A cross section of butchers who spoke to The Tide on the issue said the practice has since been done away with.
They said bringing of used tyres into the market has since been outlawed.
