Board Promises Functional Healthcare System

The Rivers State Primary
Healthcare Management Board (RSPHCMB) has said that it would deliver a functional primary healthcare system that would reduce the influx of patients to secondary and tertiary health facilities in the state.
The new Chairman of the board, Prof. Princewill Chike who stated this during a visit to the GRA office of the RSPHEMS by members of the board noted that with the population of the people and residents of the state, there was the need for a functional primary healthcare system to further decongest the secondary and tertiary health facilities in the state.
Prof Chike also stated that the board would synergise with private hospitals to ensure that adequate healthcare delivery at the grassroots was achieved.
It would be noted that the influx of patients at the secondary and tertiary health facilities was due largely to non-functional primary healthcare system and thus, the need for this to ease and cater for the health needs of the people at every nook and cranny of the state.
Chike further lauded the state governor, Barr Nyesom Wike for their appointment, stressing that the board would ensure that the administration’s vision and mandate of delivering the highest standard of primary healthcare services and programmes to improve the health status of residents of the state was achieved.
“We will bring our wealth of experience to bear on our job in the primary health sector”, he added.
Earlier, the commissioner, Ministry of Health Dr Theophilus Odagme, advised the board to partner with the ministry to improve care delivery in the state.
He lauded members of the board for their support during the Lassa fever outbreak in the state,  and urged them to remain focused saying “the board must be seen to be making progress”.
