Analyst Wants RSG To Reactivate Moribund Firms
The Rivers State
Government has been called upon to reactivate its moribund companies to generate employment opportunities and internally generated revenue.
A public analyst, Comrade Festus Abinyo made the call while fielding questions from Journalists after a public function in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
Abinyo said with the reactivation of moribund government companies, crime rate in the state would be drastically reduced because idle youth would be employed.
He disclosed that most of the youths go into crime due to lack of employment but that when they are meaningfully and gainfully employed, they would be assets to the society.
The analyst said there were so many government owned companies that are not right now functioning such as Rivers State Waterglass Industry, Riv Biscuits, Riv Line, Fibre Company among others, adding that when all these companies start to function, crime rate in the state will definitely reduce and the society will be a better place for people to live.
Adonye further appealed to the government to regard this issue as emergency and ensure priority attention is given to it.
According to him, when these companies were operational years back, there was little crime in the state because people were meaningfully engaged, and further called on the government to look for other avenues to engage the unemployed youths in the society to reduce the crime rate in the state.
