Victim Urges Police To Investigate Kidnap Incident
A community leader in
Elee Community of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Felix Okuru ,has called on the state police command to investigate the circumstances of his abduction and bring to book those behind the act.
Mr. Okuru, who is also a chief-elect in the community made this call at the side line in his hospital room in Port Harcourt at the weekend while speaking with The Tide adding that the call became imperative to enable his abductors face justice.
The Elee community chief-elect also urged the state government and the security.
peratives to end the kidnapping saga in the state, added that the menance had become a threat to the society, which according to him, had impacted negatively to the economy of the state.
The victim, while narrating his ordeal in the hands of his abductors thanked the almighty God for using a fisherman at Bakana river and the men of the Borokiri Police Division to save his life.
According to him, he was abducted on the 8th of January, 2016 at his residence at Enugu Street in Borokiri axis of the state at about 9pm and added that kidnappers disguised themselves in police uniforms armed with AK 47 riffles.
“They laid siege before my arrival from the village that day. I was with my wife but they came only for me. On sighting me at my residence, they ran and circled me when I resisted their arrest they shot at my leg and whisked me away and I found myself in Bakana river where they handed me over to a fisherman to bury me because they thought I was dead”.
“Fortunately for me, at the Bakana river, God was there for me. He provided the fisherman who incidentally was a friend of mine he quickly put call to my family and they contacted the Borokiri Police Dvision who responded swiftly took me to the hospital”, he added.
The rescued victim, however, hinted that one suspect has been arrested by the men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) in connection with the operation, even as he thanked the Borokiri DPO for mobilizing his men for the rescue mission.
A senior police officer attached to the Anti-kidnapping unit who spoke on condition of anonymity while confirming the arrest of one suspects said the arrested suspect was a chief in the Elee community, adding that investigation was on-going in the matter.
