UPTH Launches Cashless Payment System

As part of its efforts
to enhance effective service delivery in its operations, the management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has introduced cashless payment system for all services rendered in the Hospital.
Speaking during the official flag off of the cashless payment system at the boardroom of the Hospital recently, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Aaron Ojule said the policy was part of the larger hospital information computerization and management system.
Prof Ojule pointed out that the cashless payment system was in line with international best practices, and would help in reducing the length of  time being spent by patients while trying to obtain services in the hospital as well as check inadequacies associated with the manual and analogue system.
Prof Ojule disclosed that henceforth “all patients will be required to register and obtain an UPTH branded plastic credit card, which would have their passport photograph and an embedded  electronic chip containing their unique hospital number, their biodata and personal details, clinical information and financial credit.
On his part, the chairman Medical Advisory Committee of UPTH, Dr Charles Tobin West, said the cashless payment system was an initiative aimed at achieving transparency and accountability in public financial management.
Dr Tobin West, said the hospital was poised to introduce full automated system in all aspects of its operation to enhance quality service delivery.
