Two Men Docked Over N1.1m Theft

Two men, who
allegedly stole one Lister generator and cash valued at N1.1 million, belonging to one Sule Shamusindeen, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Yakubu Ramoni, 30, and Aderoju Adeniyi, 50, both residents of Boundary Road, Sasha, Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods.
The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on Nov. 28, 2015 at Sasha area of Ikeja, Lagos.
Akeem said that the accused with one other now at large, conspired to steal and sell a Lister generator valued at N1 million.
He said that Ramoni was the caretaker of a four flat units owned by Shamusindeen.
The prosecutor said that the generator was supposed to be used by the tenants of the four flat units, but instead Ramoni sold the generator to Adeniyi, who knew that it was stolen.
“The complainant also said that Ramoni collected the sum of N100,000 from one of the tenants and converted the money to his own use,” Akeem stated.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against them.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr T.O. Shomade, granted each of the accused N1 million bail with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned further hearing in the case till February 10.
