RSG Wants Buyers To Verify Lands Before Purchase
The Rivers State
Government has urged members of the public to first of all verify the availability of the land they intend to purchase so as to avoid unpleasant consequences.
Making this known to journalists shortly after an inspection of some development sites in Port Harcourt, Monday, the Commissioner of Urban Development and Physical Planning, Mr. Chinyere Igwe said so many people do not follow the law and due process in development of properties.
The Commissioner who was not happy with the rate people flout and abuse the process of obtaining plan approval posited that government would not fold its arms and watch people who would disregard laid down process in the development of properties.
According to him, in line with the new Rivers Vision of the presence government, due process must be followed, and in compliance with the law in carrying out any business of government.
“Before we came on board, for seven months, there was no Commissioner for urban Development. We have a backlog of petitions against people carrying out unapproved development.
“I must do a physical inspection first to ascertain the true position of things before any order of demolition or other action can be carried out”, the commissioner said.
Igwe also said that he was aware that many people who obtained approval for residential buildings from government had charged such plans to commercial development in an area that was not meant for commercial activities.
He however affirmed that due process must be followed by first of all undertaking an inspection before taking any further action.
Places inspected by the commissioner was a property at Orochiri community in Rumukalagbor in Rebisi, which was said to be blocking the Mini Wachara river that links Waja, as well as a development site in Khana Street in D/line.
