RSG Assures On Improved Multinationals Host Communities’ Relations

The Rivers State Gov
ernment has assured that it would foster a harmonious relationship between multinationals operating in Rivers State and their host communities, to enhance the corporate social responsibilities.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications,  Dr Austin Tam-George stated this while briefing newsmen on the development mandate of Governor Wike-led administration in his office recently.
The  Commissioner, who described Rivers State as the hub of oil and gas industry in Nigeria, stressed the need for the host communities to play active roles in the activities of oil and gas operations in the state.
According to the Hon Commissioner, part of the roles expected to be played by the host communities are in environmental stewardship, by giving information concerning oil theft and illegal bunkering, while the oil companies are expected to conform to international best practices by honouring agreement  signed with their host countries.
Dr Tam-George said, the Ministry of Information and Communications, was deeply concerned to establish a strong interface between the government, multinationals and their host communities to promote a thriving culture of sustainable development through a tripartite engagement.
The commissioner said the ministry would soon embark on a familiarization visit to all multinational oil firms operating in the state, to boost working relationship with them beyond the Join Venture arrangement.
The Hon Commissioner disclosed that a social media unit had been established  in the Ministry to cater for the yearnings and expectations of social media users concerning the activities of the Rivers State Government.
Dr Tam-George, further hinted that a special project monitoring unit had been set up in the ministry to follow up all ongoing projects in the state.
He reassured the commitment of the Wike administration towards achieving its social contract with the people of Rivers State.
