Okocha’s Appointment Stabilises Judiciary -Banigo
Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the appointment of Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha as the substantive Chief Judge of Rivers State has brought sanity and stability in the judicial system in Rivers State in particular and the country as a whole.
Dr. Banigo congratulated Justice Daisy Okocha as the substantive Chief Judge of Rivers State and for being the first female Chief Judge of the State and urged her to carry out her duties with the fear of God.
The Deputy Governor commended Governor Nyesom Wike for allowing the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the court of competent jurisdiction to determine the procedural compliance in appointing a State Chief Judge which has saved the judiciary from political manouvre and altercation.
She explained that Governor Wike’s adherence to the rule of law in the appointment of a Chief Judge has again positioned Rivers State as a reference point in subsequent judicial issues.
Dr. Banigo expressed satisfaction that the present administration in the State has lived up to its promise of reviving the state judiciary and respecting the independence of the judiciary and the legislative arm of government as enshrined in the Nigeria’s Constitution under the principle of Separation of Powers.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has called on the State Police command to ensure thorough investigation and to fish out culprits of alleged assassination attempt on the life of the Media Adviser to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairman, Mr. Jerry Needam and three security operatives who lost their lives during the attack.
Dr. Banigo who observed that the incident was coming barely few weeks after two similar incidents said the police should endeavour to get to the root of the matter and bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to book to serve as deterrent for future occurrence.
The Deputy Governor, who expressed confidence in the ability of the state police command to unravel those behind the dastardly act on the Media Aide to the PDP State Chairman, urged the public to provide the police with useful information that would assist them apprehend the culprits and fight criminality in the State.
Dr. Banigo reiterated the commitment of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led government to continue to assist the police and other security agencies to check crime in the state.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, the Special Adviser to the PDP Chairman, Jerry Needam, escaped assassination attempt on his life as unknown gunmen invaded his residence and killed two policemen and a security guard in the process.
