NURTW Rejects Planned Registration Of Tricycle Riders Association
The leadership of Na
tional Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW has kicked against the registration of Tricycle Riders Association as a trade union by the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
In a statement issued by the National Secretary of the union, Comrade Clement Wetkur recently in Abuja said the leadership of the NURTW swung into action by writing to object to the planned registration of the Tricycle Riders Association as this, will create a division within the fold of the union, stressing that NURTW represents both the Tricycle Riders Association and Road Transport Workers as one Trade Union entity affiliated to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Wektur said that the leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association (RTEA) has applied to join the union, stressing that the union’s central working committee (CWC) would soon approve the RTEA integration with the union as one union.
The union scribe said RTEA wrote a letter dated 22nd December, 2015 to the leadership of NURTW appealing for approval to integrate them into the fold of the union, and urged that the union is still looking at the implication of the full integration as a trade union.
He said for smooth running of the union, various committees has been formed to bring the much needed perspective to the work embarked upon by the union as a way of making inputs and necessary contributions that will help the union leadership provide better services and offer the union members current efficient and effective service.
He said the union has recently adopted the amendment to its constitution to reposition the union to meet up its challenges and properly guide the affairs of the union, stressing that the union is waiting the pending approval of the amended copy of the constitution by the Registrar of Trade Unions.
The union scribe also appealed to the state council of the union yet to be reconstituted to shealth their sword and embrace peace for the union to move forward, stressing that the leadership of the union believed in all inclusive government by carrying every member along in running the affairs of the union for the overall interest of peace and harmony.
He said that out of the 37 state councils of the union only seven state councils including Abia, Anambra, Cross river, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Niger States are yet to be reconstituted.
