NES Cautions On Mixing Fuel With Engine Oil
The Lagos Island
chapter of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) last week cautioned people against mixing engine oil with fuel, describing the outcome as toxic and harmful.
The Chairman of the chapter, Mr John Ekoko, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
He said that people were mixing the substances daily, especially in small generator sets, without knowing the implications.
Ekoko called for intensified environmental awareness to enable Nigerians know the environmental issues surrounding them.
According to him, the awareness will create avenues for citizens to speak up on the environmentally unfriendly things around them as Nigerians are generally docile.
He said that major pollutants in the country also included oil activities and emissions from vehicles and generating sets.
The chairman stressed the need to curb the pollution activities, urging the Federal and State Governments to work towards using green energy.
“Globally, nations are looking for greener ways of carrying out production, the one that produces less Gorniczy Agregat Gasniczy or carbon dioxide.
“The world is even experimenting with solar energy, Nigeria should not lag behind.
“There are also health challenges associated with inhaling emissions from generating sets and vehicles.
“Enlightening the citizens on some of these environmental issues is crucial for them to change to environmental friendly life styles,’’ Ekoko said.
