NAGAFF Wants FG To Restructure Auto Policy
The President, Na
tional Association of Government Approved Freight forwarders (NAGAFF), Eugene Nweke has called on the Federal Government to properly restructure the automotive policy.
Nweke who made the call at a one-day workshop for freight forwarders in Lagos recently said the call became necessary following alleged irregularities in the contract agreement entered into between the investors and the government.
He said in the contract agreement, the issue of qualities and standards were not in tandem, stressing that the foreign exchange agreement entered by both parties are not even the same.
The president noted that the contract entered by the government with the car manufacturers was of advantage to foreign countries that manufacture cars, pointing out that, “120 car manufacturers are in China, 8,000 software companies are in China today, and you know the funny thing about this our auto policy is that most vehicles manufactured there are shipped into Nigeria from China.
“For whatever brands of vehicles that are produced in China by other countries, it is Nigeria that happens to be the destination, which is not too good for our economy.
“And this is why we are thinking that the auto policy should have been properly structured by the government, because you don’t tell us that you are Peugeot from France then we go into formal agreement with you as government of the federation, then we will expect you to bring French made Peugeot only for them to go to China to do the same, then come to Nigeria”.
