MOSOP Decries UNEP Report’s Non-Implementation
The Movement for the
Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has described the continued delay in the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Report on the clean up of Ogoniland as an act of genoicide against the Ogonis.
The President of the movement, Mr Legborsi Pyagbara, who said this in his address, during the 2016 Ogoni Day celebration in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, also said that the Ogonis would soon commence series of non-violent actions over the non-implementation of the report.
According to him, “the unusual delay for the take-off of the project is becoming unbearable and indeed taxing our patience.
“We urge the Federal Government to without further delay bring into being, the announced structures and the roadmap for the implementation of the report that respects the sensibilities of the communities.
“The on-going delay on the part of the government will continue to be seen as an act of genoicide being committed against the Ogoni people.
The MOSOP president also urged all Ogoni sons and daughters to resist every attempt by any Ogoniman or woman to cause crisis in the area with the intention of truncating the implementation of the UNEP report or turning its implementation into something for political platitudes.
Mr Pyagbara also used the occasion to caution Ogoni youths against involvement in illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping and other acts of criminality.
