Industrial Harmony: NUFBTE Urges Workers, Firms’ Synergy
The leadership of
National Union of Food, Beverage and Tabacco Employees (NUFBTE) has called for synergy between workers and campanies managements to ensure peace and harmonious industrial relationship at workplace.
A statement issued in Lagos recently by the Union National President, Comrade Lateef Oyelekan, said peace and harmony could dominate the workplace when company management respect the tenets of industrial relation and workers rights within the extant Labour Law of the country.
Oyelekan said when management respect workers rights issues would not degenerate to the level of the union and workers declaring trade dispute with management of a company, stressing that dialogue remains a better option to crisis in any industrial workplace.
He explained that when union members have implicit confidence in the leadership of their union it was easier for the union’s leadership to fight for the workers rights and obnoxious policies of company management.
The NUFBTE boss stressed that no union leadership can force unwilling workers on unwilling employers.
He advised company management against victimising and humiliating union members and its leadership for standing up to demand for their welfare and their rights.
He said the unions are platforms for the workers to realise their common goals as management of company cannot deal with individual workers on industrial issue affecting them.
