Imo Police Nab 29 Kidnap, Robbery Suspects

The Imo State police
command has apprehended 29 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, alleged to have been terrorizing the people of Imo State over the last couple of months.
This was disclosed to journalists in Owerri, the state capital by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, while parading the suspects at the state command headquarters.
According to the CP, the adequate and effective security measures applied by his well-trained and committed men before, during and after the Christmas and New Year festivities led to the nabbing of the suspects, and made both Imo indigenous returnees and visitors to enjoy the festivities.
The CP named some of the arrested kidnappers as Gift Emeka (26 years), Sunday Uchenna (28 years), Emeka Chinedu (27 years), and Peter Obido (28 years), all from Awarra in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The suspects were alleged to have kidnapped one Madam Ogo Omereji (63 years) from her farm on the 26th September, 2015, and later murdered and buried her in a shallow grave after collecting N510,000.00 ransom.
The commissioner said that the strict interrogation of the suspects resulted in the exhumation of her body by the police, which was handed over to the family for normal burial.
He explained that another set of kidnappers arrested after taking their victim, a commissioner in the state on the 11th October, 2015, included Arinze John Ibeabu (43 years) and Joseph Olakunle (53 years) from Akata in Oru West LGA of Imo State and Ekiti North LGA of Ekiti State, respectively.
Also involved in the kidnapping activity was one Amadi Uju Promise (26 years) from Umuagwo in Ohaji LGA, the police boss added.
The command, according to the CP, further recovered one Toyota Camry car with registration number – BJ 872 YAB from the robbers.
According to him, the said vehicle belonged to Professor Vincent Imo of the INRI Micro-Finance Bank, Uturu in Abia State, and a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number – PJN 34 TA.
Other items recovered from the suspects included assorted guns, bullets, rifles and an unspecified amount of money.
The commissioner of police used the opportunity to warn all criminals still in Imo to repent, leave the state or meet their waterloo.
