Gov Tasks Parents On Girl-Child Education

Makura of Nasarawa State, has urged parents to prioritise education of their girl-child in order to ensure all round development in the country.
The governor made the statement on Monday while inaugurating Model Government Girls Secondary School at Kwandere village, Lafia Local Government Area.
He said that education of the girl-child was vital to rapid socio-economic development of every society and should be given adequate attention.
“When you educate a man you educate a person, but when you educate a woman you educate a whole nation.
“The inauguration of the school is a testimony that this administration places high premium on the education of the girl-child,’’ he added.
Al-Makura announced that three other model girl schools under construction across the state would soon be inaugurated to give the girl-child ample opportunity to compete favorably with their male counterparts.
He reiterated his commitment to turn around the educational fortune of the state.
“You will recall that on assumption of office in 2011, I made a declaration that education will take the front burner in the priority rankings in the state.
“We had partnered with Universal Basic Education Commission through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) towards the actualisation of qualitative education initiative by ensuring the physical well-being of schools across the state,’’ he said.
In her remark, the Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Ramatu Ajuji, commended the governor’s foresight and passion to reposition the education sector, “especially girl-child education.’’
She also lauded the synergy between the state government and UBEC, adding that the synergy had contributed improving the standard of education in the state.
