Foreign Investments: Educationist Tasks FG On Security

Nigerian educationist, Dr Acho Orabuchi, has urged the Federal Government to tackle the country’s security challenges so as to attract foreign investments.
Orabuchi made the call in an interview with newsmen at Ezimba-Ogberuru in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo recently.
He said that foreigners as well as Nigerians in the Diaspora were interested in investing in the country, but were discouraged by the security challenges it currently faced.
“If you ask any Nigerian in the Diaspora whether he or she will like to return home, the person including me, will enthusiastically say yes.
“Such a person will, however, remind you that the security situation in the country is very scaring and as such will want to think twice.
“Like so many other Nigerians, I am still young and can carry on with other activities of life here in this country.
“But the most important thing government can do is to provide security and this will guarantee the interest of the people.
“I am not saying that violence is unique to Nigeria, it is everywhere in the world, but the menace of Boko Haram is a big issue,” he said.
He also noted that government must tackle corruption and ensure the practice of true federalism as well as respect for the rule of law.
“Fighting corruption sincerely is a major task. Nigerians talk about federal character principle, but the concept is hollow. We will like true federalism to be practised holistically.
“The most effective way to fight corruption is having a strong independent judiciary and removal of the immunity clause.
“Strong judiciary will equally serve as a check to all these institutions established to fight corruption,” he said.
He charged the media to do more in exposing corrupt persons in the country.
He added: “I know the life of the journalist is important, but as a body, the media owe it as a duty to save the nation.”
