FG To Establish Animal Artificial Insemination Centres
As part of efforts
for the country to improve livestock production, the Federal Government has disclosed that about 200 artificial insemination, centres would be set up across the country.
In a press release obtained by The Tide in Port Harcourt recently, the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh was quoted to have decried the situation where cattle produces one or less litres of milk per day.
He said seven per cent of Nigerian Children are malnourished according to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
He said various initiatives and technical programmes would be introduced to attract young people who form the highest population in the country into agricultural sector.
The minister noted that the sector had before now been left to the older people.
Chief Ogbeh said the ministry would engage in massive irrigation system in the northern part of the country to grow feeders to feed the cattle and prevent migration of cattle from the north which usually resulted to the depletion of their nutrients.
