The Nigerian Medical As
sociation (NMA) has commended the Governor of Rivers State, Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his quick intervention in the fire-incident that engulfed one of the residential buildings in Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH).
Speaking, the chairman of NMA, Dr Furo Green, said the timely intervention was a rare display of leadership.
Green said the governor arrived at the scene while the firemen were still working and supervised the rescue mission.
He noted that Wike also directed immediate relocation of the families affected by the inferno to government guest house.
The chairman also added that the governor ordered that the relics of the building be brought down and rebuilt as soon as possible.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NMA, Dr Ibiso Bruce, said the timely intervention had enabled the affected doctors to resume work quickly without interruption of patient care.
He lauded the governor for his prompt intervention, adding that it had brought succour to the families of the affected hospital staff.
“It has also minimised the travails and shortened their period of grief, which is a laudable trait found in every good leader,” he said.
It would be recalled that one of the residential buildings in Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, Port Harcourt was gutted by fire on December 9, last year.
