Cult War Claims 20 In Ahoada
Some communities in Ahaoda East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State are now living in fear as cult war seems to have erupted between members of Green Landers and Acelanders.
Already, more than 20 persons were alleged to have been killed in the last couple of days as the outlaws moved from one community to another, killing and maiming their opponents without looking back.
A report from the area said, eight persons were killed on Tuesday, at Ula-Upata, three at Ihubuloko, in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
On the same day, four persons were felled at Ubeta, two in Ogoda, four in Odioku, and three at Awunugboko.
It is not known what caused the war, but many people believe that it could be an offshoot of a supremacy battle that has been raging among them for some time.
The two groups are believed to have become more powerful after the general elections killing and maiming of innocent persons.
The groups, which are said to have started in Abua/Odual Local Government Area, are alleged to be responsible for destruction of many communities in that local government area but yhey have expanded their activities to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada West and East, including parts of Ikwerre Local Government Areas.
But on the recent rampage in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, analysts believe that they have re-located to neighbouring local government areas and states.
A community leader in Ula-Upata,who chooses anonymity, called for security presence in the area, saying that residents are now living in fear of the boys
According to him, the police arrived the community after the havoc had been committed, claiming that distress calls made were not responded to in time.
When our reporter approached some security men on ground for comment, their leader who pleaded for understanding, said “only the PRO can respond to your questions”.
However, calls put across to the phones of the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Muhammed could not be picked as the calls rang out on three attempts.
