Counsel Wants FG To Respect Rule Of Law
A Port Harcourt-
based lawyer, J. P. Ebenezer Esq, has urged the Federal Government to maintain respect for the rule of law.
Barr. Ebenezer, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday, described respect for the rule of law a basic ingredient of democratic rule.
He flayed the reaction of the President Mohammadu Buhari in a recent media chat over obedience to court order.
According to him, “President Buhari’s reaction underpinned the fact that he was not ready to obey court orders.
He said, “justice is not a one way Trafic but a three-way traffic, it is justice to the accused, the society and victim.
Barr. Ebenezer condemned the arrest by the agents of the federal government of Nmandi Kalu and Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser in spite of their subsisting bail by a competent court of law.
He said where the rule of law exists the rule of self-help is abandoned.
The Port Harcourt lawyer opined that the absence of the rule of law would invariably led to anarchy.
He said the rule does not apply only when it favours us but when our very interest is at stake, yet we allow it to have its away.
