Popular Nigerian Mu
sic artist, performer and activist, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly boy who recently wrote a piece he titled 9/11 has finally revealed his New year Resolution for the year 2016. According to the write up of the ‘Area Fada’ he addressed the issue of many individuals setting out goals for themselves in the new year but do not abide by it.
He reveals that as he keeps striving in life, he hopes to be a better person.
“People make new year resolution because it brings hope for the future. Everyone starts the new year with good intentions for making right the things that went wrong in the previous year, it is a way of setting a personal goal or target and whether we can achieve them or not it gives us something to look forward to and work on, he said.
The “Area Fada’ noted that many of us may not know this, but the tradition of the new year resolution dates all the way back to 15 B.C. The month of January is name after Janus, a mythical God of early Rome Janus had two faces, one looking forward, one looking backward. On December 31st. The Romans imagined Janus looking backward into the old year and forward into the new year.
This became the symbolic time for Romans to make resolution for the new year and forgive enemies for troubles in the past and thus the new year resolution was born. Till date we keep that tradition of reflecting on our past and trying to improve our future.
