The National Butchers
Union of Nigeria (NBUN), Rivers State branch has appealed to the State government to provide trucks that will dispose waste after their weekly sanitation exercise.
Addressing journalists in his office, the Chairman of the union, Alhaji Musa Baba Ahmed, who was represented by the union’s financial secretary Mr. Suleiman D. Sule said the trucks to dispose the waste were not enough.
The Financial Secretary said the Trans Amadi abattoir conducts its clean up every Thursday morning and each trader is expected to participate in the exercise.
Sule said the essence of the clean-up was to enable consumers to purchase their goods in a healthy environment.
We also added that with a clean environment, the products of the market will be delivered clean without any form of infection.
He further assured that the abattoir will work together with the State government in his quest to keep Rivers State clean.
Sule also called on the government to deploy inspectors that will constantly ensure that the market is in a clean state.
He further encouraged traders to put in more efforts in ensuring that the market is always kept clean, not necessarily on the clean up days.
He also called on the ministry of agriculture to help and restructure the market into an international standard; adding that currently hoodlums are using the market to shield their criminal activities.
