The Rivers State
Weightlifting Association says it has commenced trainings ahead of the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) and other competitions lined up for the year.
Assistant Coach of the body, Mike Oyekachi, disclosed this yesterday in an interview with Tidesport in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the team is preparing for the task ahead to enable them perform better and win more medals in any competition.
“I am not really sure of the date for the 19th NSF, but rumour had it that, it would hold at the end of the first quarter. But, according to the National Sports Commission (NSC) it would hold in the last quarter of the year,” Oyekachi said.
He explained that early preparation is the key to success, saying that, the festival might suddenly come up, and  when it does the team would be ready to face hurdles associated with the competition.
Coach Oyekachi, also advised the athletes to be focused and take their training more seriously in order to compete favorably when the competition finally kicks-off.
The 19th NSF was earlier scheduled to hold last year, in Calabar, Cross River State.
