Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has assured that the state government will do all it can to restore order and security in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Governor Wike said the state government cannot stand aloof and watch the total breakdown of law and order in a local government area.
He explained that the State Government had to dissolve Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA ) because of high level insecurity that has claimed lives and damaged the economy of the area.
Governor Wike said that the former Chairman of ONELGA, Augustine Ahiamadu, was funding cult groups in the area which led to the loss of lives and property in the area.
He noted that security reports indicate that there was need to intervene and enthrone rule of law in ONELGA.
The governor said: as Chairman of “Caretaker Committee of ONELGA, your priority should be to restore peace and security in your community. We must do everything humanly possible to improve security in the area.
“You have to collaborate with security agencies to fight crime and cultism in ONELGA”.
He charged the new chairman to avoid any links with cult groups like his predecessor, saying that if he is found to have a relationship with cultists he will be sacked.
The governor said that the situation in ONELGA is purely cult related violence. He said that even the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, agreed that the violence in ONELGA had nothing to do with politics.
ONELGA was dissolved by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
On Etche LGA, Governor Wike charged the new caretaker chairman to ensure that the low level of crime in the area is maintained. He urged the chairman to continue with the security project of his predecessor who reduced kidnapping in the area.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said that his administration will continue to build a new Rivers State where everyone would benefit from the programmes and projects of the State Government.
He made the assertion in his Christmas message to the citizenry as he called on Christians to use the season to promote love, peace and unity.
Governor Wike, also in a Christmas message issued by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, urged the Christian faithful to remain committed to the worthy ideals exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ as they celebrate the Yuletide.
The governor also called on the people to pray for Rivers State and Nigeria. He said that the state will continue to grow from strength to strength as his administration is founded on God and the will of the people.
He advised the people of the state to use the season to deepen their faith in God as God has the solution to all societal challenges.
Governor Wike assured the people of the State that his administration working with all security agencies will ensure a peaceful celebration of the season.
He advised the privileged in the state to use the season to reach out to the less privileged as a measure of deepening friendship and communal living.
While wishing the good people of Rivers State a Merry Christmas, Governor Wike urged them to celebrate in moderation, observe traffic rules and cooperate with security agencies during and after the season.
