Governor Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has assured free traffic flow for all commuters who pass through the state this festive period.
Ugwuanyi was categorical that his administration was committed in ensuring that commuters and motorists who would treasure the usually notorious traffic prone points in the state during this yuletide season are saved from the usual untold hardship they have been subjected to in the past years.
Consequently upon this, Governor Ugwuanyi has directed the immediate decongestion of the Ninth Mile-Nsukka Onitsha Express way beginning with removal of all big trucks, causing obstruction within that area, so as to pave the way for easy flow of traffic during this yuletide and the 2016 new year celebrations.
At the weekend, the adhoc committee coordinated by the State Commissioner for Commerce and industry, Barrister Ogbu Nwobodo, issued a notice directing all owners of vehicles parked along certain portions of roads within the Ninth Miles area to remove them immediately to pave way for the desired decongestion of the roads before the Christmas rush begins.
While interacting with some stakeholders on different occasions recently, Ugwuanyi had recently hinted of plans to ensure that road users in Enugu enjoy free traffic flow, devoid of the usual congestions during the forthcoming Christmas season, especially at the notorious Ninth Mile corner axis near Enugu metropolis.
Sources said that the governor also gave a marching order that the assignment be executed effectively as soon as possible.
The first meeting of the stakeholders involved for the exercise was held at the Udi Local Government Secretariate recently and some of the stakeholders identified for the decongestion exercise included management of some big manufacturing companies located within the area whose activities have constituted nuisance along the roads.
