Total Okays IPS’ World Class Status

tor ofTotal E&P Nigeria Limited, Mr Nicholas Terraz, has expressed happiness over the company’s growing association with the Institute of Petroleum Studies and other stakeholders.
According to Terraz, the partnership has been mutually beneficial and had greatly contributed to the development of manpower with special skills for the hydrocarbon industry in Nigeria.
The MD, in his goodwill message at the 12th Anniversary Ceremony of IPs in Port Harcourt, said, “we are proud that the seed planted 12 years ago had grown into a world class institute which is now producing world-class manpower for the petroleum industry.”
Terraz who was represented at the event by the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Deep Water District, Ahmadu-Kida Musa, assured other partners that the oil firm would sustain its contribution to the growth of the institute in view of the huge benefit and rewarding result of its investment in the partnership.
Delivering open the 12th Anniversary lecture entitled: “The Role of Universities in a Developing Economy,” Prof Peter Onwualu, described universities as custodians of culture, ethnics and standards of human behavior, advancement of knowledge and skill training.
He noted that in developed economies, universities have contributed significantly to the advancement of knowledge leading to high technology but regretted that in developing economies, universities are yet to play this role significantly and that is why these countries had continued to be underdeveloped.
In his address, the Director of the institute, Prof Dulu Appah, commended Total for its support and promised to sustain the legacies that positioned the institute as a one-stop centre for training what he described as industry-ready petroleum engineers.
In his valedictory speech, the Best Graduating Student, Princewill Ikpeda, expressed appreciation to Total and staff of the institute for impacting so much into them, remarking that with the high standard training given to them, they were confident of excelling where next they find themselves.
