Sports Veteran Tasks NSC On Adequate Funding

lyst James Okorie has attributed poor funding and inadequate training facilities to the poor performance of Nigerian athletes in International sports competitions.
He stated that the country lack professional sports administrators to manage the affairs.
Okorie, who is also a pastor said this in an excusive interview with Tide sports, yesterday in Port Harcourt, saying that early preparation and training are the best ways to excel in any Tournament.
According to him, for the country to perform creditably national sports commission (NSC) should introduce sporting calendar and programmes that will benefits athletes in all ramifications.
“I think for us to do well in competitions and tournaments, (NSC) should prepare athletes early beside funds and facilities should also be ready.
Apart from that there should be grassroot, sports development programme to enable the country discover hidden talents “Okorie said.
He continued that motivation and capacity building of athletes is another important area (NSC) improve on, saying that Nigerians mindset towards sports development need to be renewed.
“in Recent times sports has become economy booster in any country, so there is need for us to invest in sports to boost our economy” he said.
