Chief Servicom Officer
(CSO), Service Compact (SERVICOM), Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to intensify its public awareness campaign on service delivery in the country.
Akajemeli, in an interview with newsmen last Tuesday in Abuja, said that the awareness would give room for all citizens to get involved in the war against service failure.
The CSO said that efforts were made in the past to enlighten citizens to their rights, adding that more campaigns would be carried, especially at the grassroots.
She said that achieving this aim would increase the number of SERVICOM Compliance Evaluations.
According to her, the SERVICOM Compliance Evaluations will help spread the awareness and knowledge, on the need for service improvement to more Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
She emphasised the need to intensify the campaign because of the status of deficient service delivery and unsatisfactory customer care in the private and public sectors.
“The failure of service delivery in public and private sector is posing a threat to the people.
“There is, therefore, need to intensify the awareness campaign that will help the citizens to know their rights and apply them.
“This will also provide a platform for building and monitoring high quality service delivery in the public service as well as increase the level of service satisfaction.
“Also, through the awareness campaign, service can reach people at the grassroots,’’
Akajemeli said that there was also need for public awareness in all areas of the country as some areas had registered very low client satisfaction.
She said that people at grassroots needed to be made aware of the importance of quality service delivery, adding that services are the basis of our nation’s development.
She said that the agency would also increase the scope of its actions in handling public complaints about service failure.
Akajemeli said that the agency was working in partnership with the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) to ensure effective service delivery in the country.
According to her, both agencies of government have their different mandates which fall within the purview of their functions.
“We are working with the Consumer Protection Council as partners to ensure quality service delivery to the people even though our mandates are different.
“While they are in charge of goods and services, ours is to ensure that services of government reach the people and to protect their interests,’’ Akajemeli said.
