RSG Tasks Youth On Agric Business

A call has gone to
youths in Rivers State who are interested in agribusiness to register with the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture.
According to a statement obtained recently by The Tide correspondent, a Youth Desk Officer in the ministry, Mr. Omeri Isaiah urged youths in the state to register with the Agric Youth Desk in the ministry.
The statement further stipulated that those between the ages of 18 and 35 who are into agric enterprenuership were free to register.
He said the youth could benefit through urban agriculture or crop cultivation which involves the practice of cultivating, processing and distribution of food in and around a town or city.
This he said increases the amount of food available to people in the urban areas.
The Ministry’s agric youth desk officer further explained the benefits of rabbit rearing to any interested youth in the society.
He said the venture does not require much capital for investment and maintenance, even as feeding of stock was not troublesome as rabbits could be sustained with kitchen leftovers, grasses and formulated feeds.
Another aspect of business success, Isaiah explained include sale of fresh fruits, which thrives on professionalism and good hygiene.
The statement further enumerated other relevant agribusiness avenues as sale of charcoal, snail farming and mushrooms farming.
He said charcoal could fetch 100 per cent profit if bought from farm production sites in the rural areas and sold to retailers in the urban areas.
Explaining the benefits of snail production, he said snail meat has been severally affirmed as a safer and nutritious delicacy as a lot of people were moving away from the consumption of beef and red meat.
