One Killed By Suspected Cultists
At least one has been
killed and scores of others wounded when Daygbam and Icelanders cult groups clashed in Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
An eyewitness who spoke with The Tide under anonymity in Port Harcourt on Monday said a Deygbem cult member had killed an Icelander and brought in its wake heavy shooting between the parties.
He stated that innocent law abiding citizens in the Ikwerre community were prevented from carrying out their lawful duties as there was heavy shooting between the rival cult groups.
The eyewitness said people could not go out of the town or come in because the cultists mounted surveillance on most of the roads in Ubima.
She noted that inhabitants of the community remained in doors as nobody wanted to be caught by flying ballets.
The eyewitness said that the boy who was killed belonged to Iceland cult group and was the only son of the parents.
She explained that the killing of the Icelander was a retaliation of the several members of Deygbam members killed by Icelanders.
She explained that a contingent of soldiers had been deployed in the wake of the bloody rivalry between the cult groups.
It will be recalled that Ubima community, the home of two former Rivers State Governors, Sir Celestine Omehia and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has become the hotbed of crisis resulting from cult clashes. Both cultists and non-cultists had been victims of the butchery that had become the lot of the Ikwerre community.
It will be recalled that last year a school vice principal was beheaded when he was lured to his farm by assassins. Beheading and unconscionable killings had become commonplace in Ubima.
