NUPENG Seeks Overhaul Of Judiciary, Anti-Graft Agencies
The National Executive
Council (NEC) of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has urged the Federal Government to overhaul the judiciary and anti-graft agencies in order to achieve the desired results in the ongoing anti corruption fight of the government.
The NEC’s position was disclosed to The Tide by its National President, Comrade Igwe Achese, shortly after the Union’s NEC meeting held in Port Harcourt last Tuesday.
Achese said the union had extensively deliberated on topical national issues and came out with communiqué which among other things tasked the federal government on the need to overhaul the judiciary, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and other related anti-graft agencies if the present administration is prepared to fight corruption.
The union’s communiqué also strongly condemned the perennial and persistent fuel scarcity in the country and the hardship imposed on the masses, especially at this festive period.
The communiqué calls on the Federal Government and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to flood the market with petroleum products to arrest the current prevalent fuel scarcity in the country.
The Union communiqué calls on government to effectively complete the nation’s four refineries turn around maintenance to alleviate and cushion the effects of hardship on Nigerians over scarcity of petroleum products and subsidy removal.
On the state of road networks across the country, the union communiqué called on government to ensure speedy rehabilitation of the roads that have now become deplorable and death traps to Nigerians.
The communiqué further stressed the imperative need for speedy passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) with the view of ensuring good corporate governance, accountability and transparency in the oil and gas sector of the nation’s economy.
