NACCIMA Tasks NNPC On e-Certificate For Crude Sales
Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), has called on Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to embrace its electronic Certificate of Origin (e-Certificate) for crude oil sales.
The NACCIMA Vice-President, Mr Billy Harry, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Abuja yesterday said the initiative would help boost crude oil export.
He said that the initiative would also open new markets for Nigeria with the present glut in the crude oil market internationally.
Harry said e-Certify was a single source Certificate of Origin for all exportable products and services to the European Union, Asia, North and South America, the Caribbean, ECOWAS and all D8 countries.
According to him, NACCIMA e-Certify will help address the issues that are of concern in the area of crude oil export trade and help open new frontiers for Nigeria’s crude oil.
“Oil export requires documentation. Nigeria’s crude oil is known all over the world, so we will encourage NNPC to apply for Certificate of Origin to further help in attracting additional interest to Nigeria’s crude.
“We advise NNPC to do so because these are all exports and countries which still prefer to trade with Nigeria will want to do so, especially as NACCIMA e-Certify will help enhance those values,” he added.
He said because of the popularity of Nigeria’s crude oil, there were countries that were interested in doing business with the country but had shown no interest because of issues surrounding integrity and good business practices.
Harry said that it was unfortunate that NNPC had yet to adopt the initiative, which began in June with the support of the Federal Government and other agencies of government involved in export trade.
“We want to make Nigeria good, we want Nigeria’s export business to grow and boom. We want export business to be the next major revenue earner for Nigeria.
“NACCIMA is going to be advocating for agriculture export as complement to oil and gas.
“It will create job opportunities because the more quality goods we are exporting, the more the business will expand.
“The more that business expands, the more it creates rooms for additional staff, which is what we need to engage our teeming youth,” he said.
