Group Tasks Firms On Etche Roads
A Non-Governmental
Organisation, Etche Youth Front (EYF), has urged oil companies operating in Etche land to assist in rehabilitating the poor road networks in Igbo Clan of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Chairman of EYF, Egbundu Manufor who spoke to newsmen on Thursday in Okehi, the headquarters of Local Government Area said in spite of the presence of oil companies operating in the clan the area records the worst network of roads in the state.
Manufor said, “Umuechem Community, Igbo Community, Okoragu community and other oil producing communities have nothing to show as oil producing communities in terms of their road network”.
He explained that the poor network of roads was frustrating socio-economic development in oil communities and appealed to oil firms operating in the area, particularly Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) to come to the aid of people of the area.
The organisation chairman equally urged both the Federal Government and the Rivers State Government to rehabilitate the roads so that people of the area would have a sense of belonging.
He mentioned Umuechem/Chokocho/Igbo Road, Chokocho/Igwuruta Road, Igbo/Oyigbo Road among the roads that deserve urgent rehabilitations work.
