Expert Urges Farmers To Leverage On Delayed Rains
An agricultural engi
neer, Mr. Umor Muzan, has called on farmers in the state to take advantage of the delayed rains in the region to go about their farming activities.
Muzan who bared his mind on the development said it spelt a good omen for farmers.
Speaking to The Tide in a telephone interview recently, Muzan, a trained agricultural engineer said the delayed rains might not be unconnected with the substantial flooding experienced in the region in 2015.
According to him, it was important that traditionally farmers in the rural areas should have done more than three quarters of their farm work for the season.
He explained further that crops that could benefit presently include cassava, plantain and other drought resistant crops amongst others.
For those involved in fish farming, especially earth pond operators, he said now was the ideal time to prepare their ponds.
However, for a successful outing for farmers at the rural level in the current season, he opined that the various local government councils should harness the human resources of the farmers with a view to providing them with modern seedlings and farming implements.
He also expressed the view that the present state government was disposed to promoting agricultural growth in the state as enshrined in its mission statement with respect to agriculture.
