Expert Tasks Local Food Vendors On Hygiene

European Union Support Immunization Governance in Nigeria (EUSIGN), Dr Dayyabu Mohammed, has advised local food vendors in the state to ensure food hygiene to prevent possible spread of diseases.
Mohammed gave the advice at a Town Hall meeting with some selected local food vendors across the state, last Friday.
Mohammed said the call was necessary in view of the fact that polio and many other diseases were caused by contaminated hands and food as well as poor sanitation and stressed the need for local food vendors to ensure that they always observe personal hygiene and operate in a clean and healthy environment.
According to him, “This is necessary to protect your health and that of others and contribute to the improvement of the health situation in our respective communities.
“The purpose of the meeting is to ensure better health for all; it is achievable if we all contribute our quota,” he said.
Earlier in her remarks, Dr Hassana Waziri, a representative of WHO in the state, enjoined nursing mothers to ensure that their children were immunised against childhood killer diseases.
She said that during the last polio Immunisation exercise, some people in five local government areas of the state were reported to had resisted immunisation of their children.
“We have challenges in five local government areas particularly Tudun Wada local government area where there was a lot of resistance,” she said.
She commended the state government for its continuous support towards total eradication of polio virus in the state.
The local food vendors were drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state.
It would be recalled that the meeting was organised by the state Primary Health Care Management Board in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to review the success recorded in routine immunisation in the state.
