The Candidate of the All
Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 General Election for the Rivers State  House of Assembly, Port Harcourt Constituency I, Hon. Victoria Wobo Nyeche has called for the implementation for the law making all structures accessible for physically challenged persons in the state.
Hon Nyeche who made the call after people living with disability complained of non recognition and not taken cognizance of their disability in building structures, said it is totally condemnable for not taken cognizant of physically challenged persons when public structures and banks building plans are approved by government agencies.
She noted that the action is discriminating because, according to her, those with disability find it difficult to enter public buildings and banks which is not ought to be as enshrined in the law.
The former lawmaker who sponsored ‘the disable enhancement bill’ while in the Assembly urged the relevant agencies incharge of approving building plans to henceforth ensure that public buildings make easy access for people with disability and challenges in the state according to the law.
According to her, when a law is passed and signed into law, it must be implemented and enforced by the executive arm of government which duty it is  to approve building plans to carry out these laws being passed by the Assembly.
” We need to make provision for the disabled and physically challenged persons. They have to be considered when structures are approved. We also need to enhance their welfare. This was part of the bill which has been past”, she said.
She said it is the responsibility of the executive arms of the government to enforce the law passed by the Assembly, regretting that the law has not been enforced since after it was passed and signed into law by the Government.
