230 Youth Renounce Cultism In Eleme
Over 230 youth from Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have renounced cultism and pledged to work for the peace and progress of the local Government Area.
The affected youths were drawn from three major cult groups which included, Deegbam, Dewell and Icelanders.
Chairman, caretaker Committee of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon. Johnson Obelle Nworgu said that the ceremony which was put together by the Local Government Council in conjunction with the Eleme Youth Council was to ensure that peace returned to the area.
Hon. Nworgu also said that the council will work out modalities towards ensuring that stipends are paid to all the youth involved in the peace process from January next year, while the restriction placed on the operations of motorcycles from 6.am to 6pm daily would also be relaxed from January 2016.
The Caretaker Chairman also commended the youth for towing the path of peace and attributed the outcome of the ceremony to the tireless efforts by men of God to seek divine intervention in the affairs of Eleme.
He used the occasion to call on all youth of the area to embrace peace in the interest of the development of Eleme.
Also speaking, a member of the Ebubu Council of Chiefs, High Chief Ambrose Yaya described the event as historic and first of its kind in Eleme and described the Caretaker Chairman as an instrument of peace for the Eleme people.
Chief Yaya also urged those offended by the activities of the repentant cultists to forgive them in the interest of peace and progress of Eleme land.
Two of the repentant cultists who spoke under condition of anonymity with newsmen described the peace efforts as genuine and urged those that have been offended in the area to forgive them.
The ceremony also witnessed a procession by the ex cultists round the major communities in the area.
